Kids of all ages like ice cream and cold, creamy desserts. Here are two options—both are dairy-free and neither contains refined sugar. 


This one-ingredient recipe is sure to be a crowd pleaser for a cool, after-dinner treat! With no added sugars and room for tasty, healthy add-ins, it’s a great dessert for kids and adults alike! 

Yield: 1 serving 


Food processor 

1 ripe banana, frozen at least 6 hours 

Slice banana into chunks; place in food processor. Pulse or process until banana becomes light and creamy in texture. Eat immediately or store in freezer for later.  

VARIATIONS: Add raw cacao powder, vanilla bean, chopped mint, or fresh fruits and nuts.  



Smoothies are fast, kid-pleasing meals in a glass, and when you make one that tastes like a pie, you’ll win all kinds of kudos from the peanut gallery! 

Yield: 2 servings 




1 cup raw pecans, soaked 2 hours, rinsed and drained  

2 cups filtered water 

2 peeled frozen bananas 

3 leaves romaine lettuce (or 2 handfuls spinach) 

2 tablespoons pure maple syrup 

2 teaspoons vanilla extract 

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 

pinch unrefined salt  

Put all ingredients in blender and puree until smooth.
